Volunteers to assist in welcoming and visitor welfare

The Seafarers Centre provides services to international seafarers (the crew members of cargo ships) when they come into our port.

Our centre, which is located at the Marine Parade entrance to the port is open on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons from 1pm to 4pm. With additional volunteers we could open every afternoon.   

The services we provide include information and welfare, free Wifi, use of a computer with internet access, currency exchange, recreation pool table and darts, reading material with comfortable lounge seating and when available, minibus transport.

Volunteers' duties are to welcome and interactive with our visitors making then welcome and assisting them with the above services.

After deciding to join and acceptance orientation and training is provided.

Volunteers nominate the afternoons (minimum two per month) they would be available and are these are recorded on the duty roster issued to each volunteer before each new  month begins.

The type of person we are looking for (is): 

Persons with a pleasant manner and an attentive and welcoming manner towards our visitors.  An interest in people from other countries and cultures is an advantage.

The ability to work as a team with the other volunteer on duty and accepting the responsibility and accountablity for sharing the simple common sense hospitality related duties.
