The Phone News Hawkes Bay offers a free service for people who are unable to read or hold a newspaper. We offer daily recordings of the following sections of the paper:
- Front Page News
- Today in History
- Letters to the Editor
- Family/ Death Notices
- TV Programmes
- Feature Article
- Inspirational Words
Our clients call a toll-free number to hear a recording of their selected item(s) read daily from the Hawkes Bay Today newspaper.
We have a number of established readers and processes in place and we are looking for a new coordinator to keep things running smooth. Our current coordinator is looking to step down, but will be able to support a new person in this role.
Other members of The Phone News team will provide additional and ongoing support.
The coordinator tasks include:
- Checking that daily recordings are available to those using the service - This task takes about 15 minutes.
- Occasionally interview prospective readers to see if they are suitable for the readers role.
- Participate in team meetings once or twice a year.
This is a great volunteer role as it does not require a huge time commitment, but it offers great personal rewards by helping others.
- Patient and approachable
- Organised and reliable
- Has empathy and a friendly telephone voice
