Newspaper Reading Service Coordinator

The Phone News Hawkes Bay offers a free service for people who are unable to read or hold a newspaper.  We offer daily recordings of the following sections of the paper:

  • Front Page News
  • Today in History
  • Letters to the Editor
  • Family/ Death Notices
  • TV Programmes
  • Feature Article
  • Inspirational Words

Our clients call a toll-free number to hear a recording of their selected item(s) read daily from the Hawkes Bay Today newspaper.

We have a number of established readers and processes in place and we are looking for a new coordinator to keep things running smooth. Our current coordinator is looking to step down, but will be able to support a new person in this role.

Other members of The Phone News team will provide additional and ongoing support. 

The coordinator tasks include: 

  • Checking that daily recordings are available to those using the service - This task takes about 15 minutes.  
  • Occasionally interview prospective readers to see if they are suitable for the readers role.
  • Participate in team meetings once or twice a year.

This is a great volunteer role as it does not require a huge time commitment, but it offers great personal rewards by helping others.
