Support for Youth with Cancer

We are a charity set up to support young people and their family living with cancer in Hawke's Bay. We work with young people who have been diagnosed with cancer, young people who have a sibling with a cancer diagnosis and some who have lost a sibling to cancer. We also work with young people who have a parent / main carer diagnosed with cancer or who has passed away from cancer.

Can you spare a couple of random hours a month? We say random because our member activities are never set at a certain time. It could be any evening or weekend day/night. We are inclusive so we need to be flexible for our members, to make sure everyone has the chance to attend.

Our member activities are so our young people can leave "everything at the door" for a couple of hours a month, just so they can be....themselves and connect with their peers. Our activities are never the same and can be office based in Hastings or out and about in the community.

This has a volunteer coordinator.

The type of person we are looking for (is):

We welcome all types of people, as all of our members are individual too. So if you are quiet and prefer people to come to you, or if you can put yourself out there and introduce yourself to people you have never met before (or anything in between) then we would love to hear from you.

Skills such as being a good listener, being compassionate as well as being able to mix with others and encouraging them are a must.

You also must have the independence to be able to get yourself to and from events.
